Democratic Debate Black voters plays a big topic in the most recent debate
The main candidates for the Democratic presidential election coming in 2020 mainly wanted to speak to the American citizens on the thursday debate rather than speak about the problems relating to President Trump. This debate comes at a very essential time in today’s politics. Much of this debate between democrats ran away from fighting from one another unlike previous debates. Some new conversation included issues on racial justice, legality regarding marijuana and child care. However there were some short-lived talks between the candidates that became more heated. These mainly regarded on black voters, a consistent Democratic topic.
The debate was sponsored by the Washington Post and MSNBC which is the fifth regarding the 2020 election. The most recent since South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg appeared more prevalent in recent polls. Senator Kamala Harris of California criticized Buttigieg for his lack of emotion and support regarding racial voters. “For too long candidates, I think, have taken for granted constituencies that have been the backbone of the Democratic Party,” Harris stated. “They show up when it’s close to election time, show up at a black church.” She suggested the rest of the democrats to apply themselves more regarding Obama’s coalition. Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey denounced previous VP Joe Biden in obvious ways, in an attempt to rob Biden of his black voters who have been the backbone of his campaign. “Black voters are pissed off, and they’re worried,” Booker stated. “I have a lot of respect for the vice president … But this week I heard him literally say that ‘I don’t think we should legalize marijuana.” Biden as well said to have the assist of “the only black African American woman had ever been elected to the United States Senate.” It was an odd reference to benefits he received from former senator Carol Moseley Braun. However he completely disregarded senator Harris, who was laughing as he spoke.
This debate came at an interesting time as it is three months since the voting begins in Iowa as the elections have become for fluid. After an uncontrollable day in Washington the debate came with an intense testimony in the impeachment hearings relating to Trump. This happened right before the candidates began the debate on stage. The debate started only a few hours after the U.S. Ambassador of the European Union Gordon Sondland confessed to the committee that he thinks Trump had used his authoritative power for his own benefit to get ahead politically.
