Volleyball The Girl Version
Balls, nets, jumping, spikes, hits, sets, clapping and yelling, these are all some of the wonderous things you can find in your typical Bainbridge High School volleyball game. What isn’t there to like about volleyball? It is a sport full of action, on any given play something crazy could happen, and anyone can touch the ball. With so much action tucked into a tiny little court you are bound to have some wild plays. Nine by nine meters is not very much room considering there are six people packed in to it. Senior, Sydney Maria mentioned how well the team did vs Bishop Blanchet and how the team made some spectacular plays. Last week at a home volleyball game for senior night, the girls absolutely dominated, beating Seattle Prep in straight sets, and showing the true power of Bainbridge Volleyball. There were many fantastic plays especially coming out of some seniors like Maggie Sweeney, Grace Cisneros and Sydney Maria.
When asked about the season, senior Maggie Sweeney said, “Our season went well; we lost some games and won some. Our team has 10 seniors so it’s been a really fun last season for a lot of us. Postseason outlook is optimistic. We had an awesome win this weekend against Bishop Blanchet and have moved on to districts. We look forward to playing this week to qualify for state!”
The outlook is good from the ladies of BHS volleyball but now it is crunch time. Now that they are in districts, they must win to advance, this means that a single loss will knock them out of contention. It is do or die. One thing working against the Spartans is the strength of the league they’re in. As with many sports, Metro and KingCo are the two powerhouses of the state, with most state wins coming from within these two districts. Powerhouses like Eastside Catholic and Lakeside are in the Metro, while teams like Skyline and Eastlake reside in KingCo. The ladies will face tough opponents during their run to the state finals, possibly including a few of theses teams. Eastside Catholic is currently at the top of the Metro and are poised to make a deep state run. All in all, your spartans are looking good for playoffs this year, they have some fierce competition, but overall have a good outlook for playoffs.
