How To Stay Active During The Holidays
Working out at home
Believe it or not, you can get a sufficient workout without leaving your house–or even leaving your couch! Strap on some ankle weights or stretch with a Thera-Band while binge-watching Netflix for a good leg workout. You can also pull out those old exercise videos for a more comedic way of getting in your cardio. Cleaning out the house can also provide a good workout, whether you’re sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, doing laundry, or washing the windows.
Going to the gym
There are actually quite a few places on the island that offer cheap yet demanding fitness or yoga classes during the wintertime. These include Barrecor, the Dayaalu Center, Bainbridge Yoga House, Island Fitness, and the Bainbridge Athletic Center. If you have already blown all your spending money on gifts for your loved ones, swim some laps at the Aquatic Center for a refreshing full-body session.
Winter sports can offer much more intense workouts than summer sports. This is because of your body’s inability to know when it’s working too hard in the freezing outside air. In order to be safe while working out in the cold, be sure to do the right layering, cover your extremities, take safety precautions in case of uneven weather conditions, and to not forget water and sunscreen! Great outdoor winter activities include ice skating, snowball fighting, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, sledding, walking your dog, raking the leaves, and shoveling snow.
